# Wealth-management tools that predict returns and test portfolios

> Tools for a financial planning firm to track clients' wealth, project returns, and compare strategies against market indexes, balanced portfolios and rebalanced ones.

- Client: An Australian financial planning firm (Finance)
- Role: Engineer and data scientist, Nicolas Dao
- Status: Delivered. At Cloudless Labs
- Capabilities: Financial analysis, Data science, Web applications, Forecasting

## Outcomes

- Wealth tracked in one place instead of across statements and spreadsheets.
- Projected returns, so planners can show clients where a strategy leads.
- Strategies compared side by side against indexes, balanced portfolios and periodically rebalanced ones.

## The situation

A financial planner's advice is only as convincing as the numbers behind it. Clients want to know what they own, how it's performing, and what happens next under one strategy or another. Doing that by hand, across statements and spreadsheets, is slow, error-prone and hard to explain.

## What I built

Wealth-management tools that do three things:

- **Track wealth** across a client's holdings, in one place.
- **Predict returns**, projecting where a portfolio is likely to go so a planner can show the long-term effect of a decision.
- **Compare strategies** against the benchmarks clients understand: market indexes, a balanced portfolio, and the same portfolio rebalanced over time, so the value of rebalancing is visible rather than asserted.

Underneath, it's careful data work: clean price histories, consistent treatment of contributions and withdrawals, and comparisons that are fair to each strategy.

## Why it matters to you

Finance punishes sloppy numbers. I've spent years on market data, from this kind of planning tool to quantitative research in crypto, and the lesson is always the same: the hard part isn't the chart, it's making sure every number on it can be trusted.
